Working in a cloud project but keeping the files local

Dear Team,

Yesterday, I converted my Citavi local project into a cloud project. I discovered that in the cloud projet, all my attached pdf went in the cloud. But I don't want them to be in the cloud. I want them to remain in my local project, in the place where I want (not in the Citavi file).

Is there a possibility to continue to attach files to reference keeping them local? (the other utents from the project in the cloud would just see that I have that file, but wouldn't have any access to it).

Thank you,

bests,

Pierre

Hi, Pierre

It's currently not possible to save all linked PDFs outside the Citavi Cloud when turning a local project into a cloud project. With the current beta version, we have introduced a feature to exclude individual PDFs from the upload and set a link to a locally stored PDF instead. This requires setting a key in the Windows Registry, see screenshot [German Windows]. I don't really think that this is the solution you are looking for.

Best regards

Hi, Sebastian,

The new feature in the Beta version sounds good, I need to test it to see if it is what I wanted. How can I set the key in the Windows Registry? I already have the beta version 6.3.15.0, but I have a different Windowsregistery (attached).

Where can I find and activate the AllowCloudProjectFileLinks?

Thank you,

PIerre

Hi, Pierre

You're in the right place in the registry. For the setting you'll need to create a new Subkey AdminSettings first, then add a String (REG_SZ) value as shown in the screenshot.

Hi Sebastian,

It is wonderful, it works! This is exactly what I wanted when I want to add files in my cloud project.

Now if I could transform my whole local project keeping all my files local in that way. It would be ideal!

Thank you,

Pierre.

Pierre,

Hello. I have the same issue as you had. Did you manage to keep all files local? If yes, what exactly did you had to do after making the Windows Registry change mentioned above? Was it a one-by-one setting, was there any batch solution...? Any and all additional information would be welcome.

Best,

Alain

Hi Alain,

In fact, if you have a big project, which is my case, it is too much work, so I don't use it. I hope that it will be one day possible. If you don't have too many documents,it's OK. You can do the following:

+ you convert your local project in a cloud project (without the attachments)

+ then you use the method indicated by Sebastian P. in the foregoing messages (I don't know if it still works because it was 6 months ago). The problem is that you have to do create the links for each file, so you understand that it can take a long time. But this method allows you to create links to your files without any file in the cloud. The other users see that you have the attachement but don't have any access to it. If necessary they ask you personnaly.

I hope it will help you,

best,

Pierre
