Thanks for sharing your idea! Although it's not possible to create your own reference types in Citavi, you can usually get the output format you want by making changes to the citation style you're using. When developing Citavi we opted for customizability on the formatting end, since user-defined reference types can really be a nightmare if you ever need to export references to another program.
If you send me examples of the formatting you want for each reference type and let me know which citation style you're using, I can explain how you can get the output format you want.
For white papers you will usually use the "Report or Gray Literature" reference type. For reference works, we recommend the "Edited book" reference type.
