Hi Guoyi,

Thanks for your questions.

Note: This add-on can only be used with local (!) projects, not with cloud projects. But it also works with an English user interface.

Please follow these steps:

1. Install the update to the current version of Citavi 6.4 (Download).

2. Close Citavi and follow method 2 in this manual to install the add-on.

3. Start Citavi 6 again and open you local project.

4. Add the edited book itself and then all contributions you need from the book.

https://www1.citavi.com/sub/manual6/en/index.html?101_adding_a_contribution_in_an_edited_book.html

5. In the Reference tab of the edited book, right-click on the PDF file and click Split PDF.

6. Select the contributions for which a PDF should be created from the corresponding pages. Be sure to enter the physical page numbers if, for example, the book contains some page sections in Roman numerals or the logical pages (the printed page number on each page) differ for other reasons.

7. Click OK.

Best regards

Susanne

Thanks. And would official Add-Ones produce similar products? I download BHL PDF, usually the whole journal, if I use this wonderful Add-Ones, I could give one PDF several names. So, will Citavi give me the chance to name one reference several names?

Hi Guoyi,

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I cannot promise that this will be possible in the future. But I am happy to pass on this suggestion.

Until then, you would need to split those PDF files with an external tool, for example Adobe or:

https://www.ilovepdf.com/split_pdf

If you are splitting a PDF file, you need to make sure that the first citation you take from a PDF has the "correct" page number in your project. If necessary, change the page number in Citavi to match the printed version of the cited text. Citavi will then "count" for you for the subsequent citations so that the page numbers are entered correctly.

Best regards

Susanne

Hi Guoyi,

Thanks for your message.

What kind of project do you use, local or cloud? This add-on can only be used with local (!) projects, not with cloud projects.

Did you follow the steps I have described below?

We kindly ask you to create a log file by following this guide in our manual under: https://www1.citavi.com/sub/manual6/en/index.html?finding_bugs_in_citavi_from_launch.html

To transfer the file, please use our secure upload service

https://www.citavi.com/transfer

So that we can match the file to the issue, please include the ticket ID #102740 in the message field of the upload form.

We will treat the file confidentially and delete them immediately once the investigation is complete.

Thank you!

Best regards

Hi Guoyi,

Thanks for your reply and the log file. The add-on was successfully loaded.

However, the reference has the wrong reference type ("Journal Article" instead of "Book, Edited").

This add-on can only be used with contributions in parent references.

Please follow these steps:

1. Add the edited book itself. In your case, you can change the reference type for the journal article to "Special Issue":

https://www1.citavi.com/sub/manual6/en/index.html?changing_reference_types.html

2. Add all contributions you need from the journal, as we explain here for contributions in edited books:

https://www1.citavi.com/sub/manual6/en/index.html?101_adding_a_contribution_in_an_edited_book.html

3. In the Reference tab of the edited book, right-click on the PDF file and click Split PDF.

4. Select the contributions for which a PDF should be created from the corresponding pages. Be sure to enter the physical page numbers if, for example, the book contains some page sections in Roman numerals or the logical pages (the printed page number on each page) differ for other reasons.

5. Click OK.
