Hi,

Will the online version of Citavi be available soon? I am doing the transition to Mac, and unfortunately, I cannot find a better alternative than Citavi software. Thanks.

Hi Pablo,

Thank you for your question.

With Citavi Web we're making good progress and are still on track for starting the beta test later this year.

If you are interested in participating in the beta test, you can register for our newsletter at http://www.citavi.com/startwebbeta

In our manual we explain how to run Citavi on a virtual machine on your Mac.

Kind regards

Jana

It is interesting that 15 months gone by and you gave me the same answer last week that you gave these guys

I was thinking about upgrading my license from free to Pro but knowing that after 15 16 months there has been zero progress on citavi web that indicates that your platform is barely supported and it's not worth the money

Citavi was great but knowing the fact that it's not available through online platform and it has to be installed only on PC for me that's a big red light

You can see for yourself what progress has been made by registering for the Insider Preview: https://www.citavi.com/en/insiderpreview

You'll have to consider that:

You must not use this environment for productive work. Your projects will be deleted as soon as we move from alpha to beta.

The preview version receives an update every day so that bug fixes can be applied. You can report possible bugs, but you will not receive any personal feedback.

Hi Peter, I signed up for the insider preview account. However, what do I do now that I'm there? It says the site license is free, but there's no icon to click to open it to do work. So confused!

Never mind Peter. I found the link on the https://www.citavi.com/en/insiderpreview page (not on my log in page). I just had to scroll down farther.

Now that I have it open, it does look pretty cool!

Most of the Mac users, clearly prefer not to use the Windows platform or even less, pay for another operating system! It would be great if Citavi could work on both!

Hi Amalia,

Yes, we are planning to start the public beta test for Citavi Web (which will run via your browser on your Mac) at the beginning of next year.

Kind regards

Dear Ioannis,

In the first half of 2019 we will launch the beta testing phase for Citavi Web, as long as there are no unforeseen delays.

We are currently in our internal alpha testing phase and do not have a publication date yet.

Kind regards

Jana

could you be more specific? because it was supposed to be released at the end of 2018!

Dear Ioannis,

Thanks for your question! We unfortunately do not have a public release date for Citavi Web.

Estimating software development time is a rather imprecise art as unforeseen bugs can lead to lengthy delays.

Rather than communication a date we may or may not be able to meet, we prefer to ship only after all of our bug and unit testing is successful.

Although this makes it difficult to predict a release date, it should mean a better product and less frustration for our users.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding!

Kind regards

Jana

Hello Tolga

Please subscribe to our newsletter to be informed when the beta phase of Citavi Web starts. This will make you one of the first to use Citavi Web. We will not publish any progress reports or forecasts about the expected start date until then.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hello, any updates on this? You said earlier that in the "first half of 2019 we will launch the beta testing phase for Citavi Web". Did you encounter difficulties?

Since we have been waiting for a solution for years, it is no longer a matter of months. If it will be published in 2019, it would be great. But the German forum here is already discussing whether a change to other software is not inevitable, because many people started with Citavi in their Bachelor's degree and hoped for a non-Windows-Desktop-Citavi for years and are still waiting for it in their doctorate.

Of course, such product policy is actually a private decision of the developers/publishers, but the development of Citavi is largely paid for by public funds/tax money (mainly library budgets, university software license), so actually by all of us.

:-(

Open interfaces with which a broad system compatibility could be established should therefore actually be mandatory. If everyone pays for it, it should not only be available for Microsoft Windows/Word users.

We are currently in the state of performing usability tests. We only do this with a few users, because this is usually enough to detect problems. Once these tests have been completed, the beta phase begins.

Peter

Hi,

When will Citavi web be released? We are waiting for it for a very long time.

Thank you very much.

Hi Ümit,

First we have to complete the current usability tests before we go into the beta phase. We don't work towards a certain date, but towards a certain quality level. That's why I can't name a release date.

Kind regard,

Peter

It's a great shame you didn't have it ready by the beginning of this academic year. I am starting a four year project and really like citavi, but without a web version I must use other software for the project. I had been hopeful it would be ready by now, but adieu, I must go to the greener pastures of Endnote.

The same applies to our group too. Unfortunately we have to use an other programme because we are using mac!

Same here :-( Really hoping for a start within the coming month.

Hello Citavi Developers,

I am just writing to encourage you in your work on an online version of Citavi.

Having just viewed a couple of videos, I was immediately wanting to make Citavi my tool in thinking through and writing up my research. I was especially blown away the "thoughts" function and how it is integrated into the whole workflow. I believe that this makes Citavi stands out.

Unfortunately, I also discovered that Citavi was only made for Windows. All my research colleagues use a Mac. I use a Mac. I was wanting a Mac version. I did a search and found that you were building an online version of Citavi. This may be the solution I am looking for. :)

All the best in your development! :)

Darren
