I need to use my citavi project with my MaxQDA data analysis program. The problem is that I have MaxQDA on my mac. laptop and had to heep citavi on another windows laptop. I prefer writing on my mac and wish there is a way to export the project. Can you advise me on that?

Hi Abeer

Until the release of Citavi Web the only way of doing that is running Citavi in a Virtual Machine with Windows on your Mac and doing the writing in Word for Windows there. Our manual shows how: https://www1.citavi.com/sub/manual6/en/index.html?installing_on_a_mac.html

Thank you dear Sebastian,

Unfortunately, this is too complicated for me and needs more storage on my Mac laptop machine. Is there is a way that I can export my phd project on citavi to word document or through email, so I can use it on my Mac machine later?

I really wish Citavi release new version that works on Mac.

Many thanks,

Abeer

Hi, Abeer

You can export your Citavi project in various formats (RIS, BibTeX, ...) but not of these will preserve all information stored originally (e.g. knowledge items). What you need here depends on the workflow and software you plan to adopt on your Mac.

What you can also do is export all your knowledge items and categories into a Word document and continue working with this document in Word for Mac. Due to compatibility issues and as you would be using the document on the Mac without Citavi anyway, it's probably best to convert all the Citavi fields into plain text in Word on Windows. Please note, that this will remove all automatic Citavi features from this document, i.e. references deleted from the text will not be deleted from the list of references, for example.

Best regards
