The Citations Format Publications Tool is disabled on my version of Citavi 5. The message says something about patent issues. Can you please explain.

Dear Harry,

In Citavi 5 it is indeed usually possible to insert references into a document using placeholders. These placeholders are then converted to formatted citations in a second step. At the same time, a bibliography is created. This option works with all programs that support rich text format (.rtf), including OpenOffice Writer, LibreOffice Writer and Scrivener.

Unfortunately, this placeholder conversion process is currently protected by a patent in the United States. As long as this patent is valid, we are thus unable to offer the option to convert placeholders in the United States. This means that when you download and install Citavi 5 in the United States, this feature is not available. If you download and install Citavi outside the United States, this feature is available. However, it will be deactivated if you are using Citavi in the United States based on your IP address.

Please also note that in Citavi 6, placeholders are no longer supported. Instead, you can create publications with Microsoft Word or a TeX editor.

Kind regards
