When importing a reference from an online database, original text is no downloaded

Need Answer

I am using Citavi 6 picker to add a reference from an online database, in which I have permission to download the full text. When Citavi imports this reference, it downloads a copy of the text from arxiv instead the original text from the database.

Note that I can download the full text from the data base manually, so it doesn't seem like a permission issue.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Tali,

Thank you for your message.

Could you please let us know the DOI of the reference?

Via which database do you have access to the full text PDF?

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Jana

This is the DOI: 10.1109/JSTSP.2016.2537145

I'm not sure about the database - when I am connecting through my instutute's network I have access to this journal and others.

Thanks!

Hi Tali,

Thanks for your example.

Did you perform your search for the reference directly on the IEEE website (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org) or somewhere else?

Kind regards,

Jana

I performed the search in google scholar.

Hi Tali,

Thanks for your reply.

Google Scholar offers the arXiv PDF directly on the search results page. This is why the Picker imports it from Google Scholar:

If you wish to also add the published PDF of the article, please use the "find full text" feature in Citavi again. Choose the option to "Include references that already have attached files".

Kind regards,

Jana

Sorry, I think misunderstood your question.

I didn't import the article from the google scholar search results page, but directly from the IEEE page. I pressed the Citavi chrome extension at the upper right corner of the browser (see attached pictures). Does it matter that I got to this page through the google scholar search?

I tried to use "find full text" feature and I think it didn't find anything since I have the "add" button disabled when I select this reference.

Note that this has happened to me with other IEEE articles too - for some articles Citavi downloads the full text but for others it downloads the arxiv version.

Thanks

Hi Tali,

Thanks for your clarification and screenshots!

I have checked the following open access article on IEEE: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6324417

For this, the Citavi Picker automatically downloaded the IEEE PDF.

Your example is a closed access article which you can access with your institutional log in: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7422692

As from my network, I do not have access to the IEEE PDF, Citavi imports the arXiv PDF.

However, Citavi should find the IEEE PDF as you can access it in your browser.

I assume that Citavi does not detect that you are in your instiution's network.

I have checked your library website: https://weizmann.libanswers.com/faq/164766

Please set up your library's EZProxy connection settings like this: "Tools" > "Options…" > "RSS/OpenUrl"

/9e6800a24dec6c0037e21ec158c9dc83

To connect to your library from home, please follow step 1 and 2 here.

The "find full text" feature should now be able to find the IEEE PDFs for the references with arXiv PDFs.

Additionally, the Picker should now pull the IEEE PDF for new articles you find on the IEEE website.

Kind regards,

Jana
